Once worked for 50 rupees, today she is the highest paid actress on TV, charges lakhs for an episode

The TV actress we are talking about is none other than Rupali Ganguly. Rupali started working at the age of 8 and she used to earn only Rs 50, however, now she charges lakhs of rupees per episode for her serial.

Rupali Ganguly is the daughter of Bollywood filmmaker Anil Ganguly. The actress started her career in films as a child artist with her father’s film Saheb. She was only 8 years old at that time. She worked in many Bollywood films including Mera Yaar Mera Dushman in her childhood.

There was a time when Rupali’s family faced financial difficulties. Her father lost all his savings after doing a few films including Dharmendra starrer ‘Dushman Devta’. Due to the absence of a corporate system, the filmmaker even used his personal wealth to complete his film. After this, the actress started doing theatre and often walked 15 km to save money.

He revealed in an interview with Mashabale India, “My first play, Atmakatha, was produced by Dinesh Thakur at Prithvi Theatre. I was paid Rs 50 for the play and sometimes I would also get a samosa. It was a lot of money.”

Rupali tried her luck in Bollywood with the films ‘Do Aankhen Barah Haath’ and ‘Angaara’, however both these films failed at the box office. Then she left the film industry.

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Rupali Ganguly revealed the reason for quitting films and said, “‘I did not perform well in films, and it was an option because casting couch was prevalent in the industry at that time. Some people may not have faced it, but people like me had to face it and I decided not to choose this option, so you will be considered a failure because you are from a film family.’

After leaving Bollywood, Rupali made her TV debut with ‘Sukanya’ in 2000. But Ganguly got a big break with the role of Dr. Simran Chopra in the 2003 medical drama ‘Sanjeevani: A Medical Boon’. Then Rupali became famous in every household with her show ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’. In this serial, she played the role of Monisha, which the audience still likes.

After this, the actress never looked back and then she did many hit shows like ‘Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki’, ‘Kavyanjali’, ‘Ek Packet Umeed’, ‘Sapna Babul Ka…Bidaai’ and ‘Baa Bahu Aur Baby’.

The actress is currently seen in the hit TV show Anupama. This show has included her in the list of television’s highest paid actresses.

According to reports, Rupali charges Rs 3 lakh per episode for her Anupama serial, making her the top actress of the small screen.
