IAF New Indigenous Missile Project: Indian Army is continuously working on the strategic front to deploy special types of weapons on the China and Pakistan border. According to the report of news agency ANI, amid tension on the border of the two neighboring countries, the Indian Army is working on two plans to develop short-range shoulder-fired missiles.

This is a surface to air missile which will prove to be a perfect weapon for air border security. The cost of these indigenous defense systems is more than Rs 6800 crore. For this, the army plans to develop and purchase more than 500 launchers and about 3000 missiles.

Plan to make indigenous missile in place of old missile purchased from Russia

Defense forces officials said the Army, along with other indigenous stakeholders, has also initiated the process of acquiring new missiles to replace the old Igla-1M missiles purchased from Russia.

Defense Ministry officials said the Indian Army and Indian Air Force currently have Very Short Range Air Defense System missiles equipped with LR homing navigation system. It also has short range Igla-1M missile system. It was purchased from Russia in 1989 and included in the Indian Army fleet. After this, a plan was made to change it in 2013.

Laser beams are being made for missiles

Defense forces officials have said that at present work is being done on a project worth Rs 4800 crore. Its contract has been given to a public sector unit in Hyderabad and a private sector firm based in Pune. Under this, these companies have to develop laser beams for short-range missiles. The army will use it to deal with drones, fighter planes and helicopters of enemy countries on the border. Under this project, 200 launchers and 1200 missiles are to be developed for the Army and Air Force.

Under the second project, the work of design and development of infra-red based missile has been given to the government sector company Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). DRDO is working on this project with its two private sector defense affiliates.
