Bollywood beauties have been counted among the top actresses of the 90s. At one time she was the highest paid actress of the film industry. She was last seen in a film in 2015 and since then she has been away from Bollywood.
The beauty we are talking about is none other than Moushumi Chatterjee, who debuted as a child actress in the 1967 Bengali film ‘Balika Vadhu’.
Moushumi Chatterjee became an overnight star with her first film ‘Balika Vadhu’. But due to family pressure, the actress got married at an early age and became a mother at the age of just 17. However, her marriage or becoming a mother did not become an obstacle to her career.
In an interview given to Lehren Retro, Moushumi had revealed that she had signed two films of Amitabh Bachchan – ‘Desh Premi’ and ‘Barsaat Ki Ek Raat’. But later he was replaced by films.
Moushumi had also given the reason for being out of Amitabh Bachchan’s films. She had said that she had to be a woman who agreed to everything and she could not do that.
Moushumi played the role of Sunny Deol’s sister-in-law in the film ‘Ghayal’ released in 1991. According to many reports, Sunny reached the set late one day and kept talking on the phone. Then Moushumi scolded him severely and told him not to ruin the respect of his father Dharmendra. It is said that then Sunny Deol had apologized to the actress.
Moushumi Chatterjee’s last Bollywood film was Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Piku’. This film was released in 2015 in which she was seen with Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and late actor Irrfan Khan.
Moushumi had two daughters, but in the year 2019, one of her daughters, Payal, died after a long illness. After which she went into deep shock and stayed away from films.
