Ravi Shastri’s Advice For Indian Team: There is increasing enthusiasm among the fans regarding the ODI World Cup 2023 to be played in India. The tournament will start from 5 October. Team India last played under the captaincy of SS Dhoni in 2011. ODI World Cup had won At the same time, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri said that this time the Indian team should not go with the opening of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill in the World Cup.
After KL Rahul, India is continuously appearing in ODIs with the opening of captain Rohit Sharma and star batsman Shubman Gill. But Ravi Shastri feels that Team India should not go with this opening pair in the World Cup as there is no left hander in both of them.
The former coach gave advice to Team India in an interview to ‘The Week’. Veteran Shastri said, “No, it will be challenging. You have to see the event in depth. Form becomes important again. You need to strike the right balance. Do you think the left-handed batsman will make a difference in the top order? It should not be opening, but should be in top three or four. You have to weigh all those options. Ideally, I would like to see two left-handed batsmen in the top-6.
Ravi Shastri further explained how the left hander has proved useful for the teams. The former Indian head coach further added, “Whenever you have done well (left-handers have contributed.) In 2011, you had Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina. Go back to 1974… Alvin Kalicharan, Roy Frederick, Clive Lloyd…. Same in 1979. The 1983 team was the only team that did not have a left-handed batsman, but that whole tournament was against all odds.
Ravi Shastri further said, “In 1987, Australia had enough… They had Allan Border at the top, two or three more in the lower order. Sri Lanka proved it again in 1996 with Sanath Jayasuriya, Arjuna Ranatunga, Asanka Gurusinha. And then Australia, with Gilchrist and Hayden. England has it now. That mix and balance has to be found.”
