Jayanagar Seat Recounting: karnataka assembly election Congress has won with a huge majority, but on Saturday (May 13) at around 11 pm, the result of one seat got stuck. High voltage drama was witnessed regarding this. Even the Election Commission had to order re-counting on this seat. At the same time, Congress President in Karnataka DK Shivakumar also reached the spot and protested.
According to news agency PTI, the Election Commission has ordered a recount of postal ballots in Jayanagar constituency of Bengaluru. Congress candidate Sowmya Reddy is contesting against CK Ramamurthy of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on this seat. Reddy was ahead by 294 votes, getting 57,591 votes and Ramamurthy got 57,297 votes.
Recounting after appeal of BJP candidate
An Election Commission official said the recount of postal ballots was ordered following Ramamurthy’s appeal. Congress state president DK Shivakumar and party’s working president Ramalinga Reddy and other office-bearers protested against the election body’s order. Out of the total 224 seats in Karnataka, Jayanagar is the only region where the election result was not declared till the time of writing this news.
DK Shivakumar’s allegation
DK Shivakumar accused the Election Commission officials of distorting the result of Sowmya Reddy. He said, “Soumya Reddy, the Congress candidate from Jayanagar assembly constituency, has won the election but she has opposed the action of the election officials. Election officials tried to change the results on the pretext of recounting.”
