CM Biren Singh on Manipur Violence: On the violence in Manipur over the inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh interacted with the media on Monday (May 08). During this, he has given information about the damage done from the rescue operation to the state.
“All persons stranded at different places in Manipur are being provided best possible care and assistance in safe places and shelter camps,” he said. Along with this, CM Biren Singh has also appealed to the people to maintain peace in the state. He said, “I appeal to the people to maintain peace in the state.”
‘1700 houses burnt, 60 people lost their lives’
He further added, “In the unfortunate incident of May 3, around 60 innocent people have lost their lives and 231 people have been injured, many with serious injuries. About 1700 houses have been burnt. The work of taking the stranded people to their respective places has also started.

He told, “So far 20 thousand stranded people have been evacuated. About 10 thousand people are still stranded. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been monitoring the situation since the day of the incident till now. They have sent several companies of central forces.
Manipur violence hearing in Supreme Court
At the same time, on Monday (May 08), the hearing of this matter was also held in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court of the country has expressed surprise that how the High Court can order to include a community in the list of tribes.
The court has fixed the next hearing regarding this on May 17. Along with this, the bench headed by the Chief Justice took on record the steps being taken by the government to normalize the situation. Ordering to take all necessary steps for the rehabilitation of those displaced during the violence, he also directed to provide facilities and medical assistance to the people living in the relief camps.
