New Delhi: Actor Kangana Ranaut has argued in favor of same-sex marriage, saying that when two individuals are “hearts are one,” their preferences are irrelevant. Kangana was questioned about it after the Supreme Court heard arguments in favor of legalizing same-sex marriage in India.
“Jo shaadi hoti hai, woh dil ke rishte hote hai, ye sab hi jante hai. Jab logo ke dil mil gaye hai, baaki kuch logo ki jo preference hai, usme hum kya bol sakte hai ( Marriage is a matter of the heart. Everyone knows it. When hearts have met, what can we say about people’s preferences)?,” Kangana said.
A number of Bollywood celebrities are joining the growing chorus of supporters for this historic hearing.
Onir, a filmmaker who has frequently spoken out in support of the LGBTQ+ community, also shared his thoughts.
“Good morning beautiful people. Today at 1 pm the Supreme Court of India starts its deliberations on same-sex marriage. An important day in our lives & struggle for equal rights. Be with us to create a more beautiful inclusive world #EqualityIsNonNegotiable,” he wrote.

NO. Same sex marriage is not an ‘urban elitist’ concept. It’s a human need. Maybe some sarkari elites drafted it who have never traveled in small towns & villages. Or Mumbai locals.
First, same sex marriage is not a concept. It’s a need. It’s a right.

Apurva Asrani, a member of the LGBTQ community, also shared her opinion.
Not yet. They haven’t thrown us back into the deep sea yet. Case is still being argued & govt will return on Wednesday wth ‘thinking’ done. But kinda disappointed with CJI’s comments placing faith in govt to give us our rights. Why does this feel like a U turn? #marriageequality https://t.co/D9HsYA0jb9
