Sikh Religion In America: The followers of Sikh religion are also increasing in America (USA). There are many such schools where ‘Sikhism’ is taught. The US state of Virginia has now become the 17th state to teach “Sikhism” in its schools.
Earlier in the US, Utah and Mississippi became the 15th and 16th states to include information about Sikhism, Sikh practices and traditions in their social studies curriculum. 6,06,000 students in Utah and approximately 4,57,000 students in Mississippi will get an opportunity to learn about the Sikh community. According to information received from the US government, so far 17 states have voted in favor of new social studies standards, which will include Sikhism or Sikhism in their school curriculum. The American government has been thanked on behalf of the American Sikh community for this.
‘More than 10 lakh students will be able to know about Sikhism’
Amrik Singh, a member of the Sikh community of Jackson, said these new standards provide an opportunity for our growing Sikh community in Mississippi to educate our neighbors about Sikhism and to better protect and identify Sikh students in the state. It was said on his behalf that after the initiative taken in Virginia, more than 10 lakh students will get an opportunity to know about Sikhism.

The American Sikh community claims that their community is the fifth largest religion in the world. The community has contributed to American society in the fields of civil rights, politics, agriculture, engineering, and medicine for more than 125 years. On the other hand, if the population of Sikhs is estimated at the global level, then these people are 0.39% of the world’s population i.e. about 30 million.
Sikh communities are present on every inhabited continent, with the largest total expatriate populations in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Countries with the largest proportion of Sikhs include Canada (2.1%), India (1.7%), the United Kingdom (0.7%), and the United States (0.30%).
