Karnataka Elections: The date for the Karnataka assembly elections is going to be announced on Wednesday (March 29). The Election Commission will announce in a while the polling for 224 assembly seats in Karnataka in how many phases. All the parties are engaged in the election strategy. Along with this, the Election Commission has also fully geared up for the upcoming elections. There are about 17 thousand voters in the state whose age has crossed 100 years. The good decision of the commission is that it has started the facility of voting from home for people above 80 years of age and Divyang.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar had told that for the first time ECI is going to provide the facility to vote from home to those above 80 years of age. He had said that his teams would go there with Form-12D to exercise their franchise. However, he also said that the Election Commission encourages people above 80 years of age to come to the polling booth, but those who cannot come can avail this facility.
‘Saksham’ mobile app for differently-abled people
A mobile application called ‘Saksham’ has been introduced for differently-abled people. With the help of this, they can log in and choose the option of voting. Apart from this, another mobile app ‘Suvidha’ has been created, which is an online portal for candidates to file nominations and affidavits. Not only this, candidates can also use the Suvidha portal to seek permission for meetings and rallies.
How many voters in the electoral state?
According to the Election Commission, at present there are 12.15 lakh voters above 80 years of age and 5.55 lakh differently-abled voters in the state. In a state with 224 constituencies, 36 seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes and 15 for Scheduled Tribes. There are 5.21 crore voters out of which 2.59 crore are women voters. This number also includes 16,976 centenarians, 4,699 transgender and 9.17 lakh first-time voters.
