New Delhi: Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan launched his son Hrithik Roshan with the 2000 film ‘Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai’. While Hrithik may have become a sensation overnight, his path there wasn’t straightforward. The director admitted that his son was excessively thin in the early years of his career and that a spinal chord issue prevented Hrithik from ever being able to dance or develop a body.
Strangely, Hrithik’s admirers adore him for his dance prowess and for being one of the fittest actors in the business. When Rakesh made ‘Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai’, though, things were different.
Talking about it, Rakesh said, “After Koyla I was looking for a story to make. Someone told me, Isme new ladka ho to acha rahega, romantic image hogi sell…To Hrithik bhi baitha hua tha. To maine bola ki Hrithik ko lenge (Someone told me to launch a new face, the romantic image will sell. Hrithik was sitting there only and I said let’s take Hrithik).”
He was very lean and thin. Doctors told him that You can never make a physique, you can never dance. Because aap me inherent kuch problem hai spinal chord mein. But he challenged everything and he started exercising with books and slowly from books he came to dumbbells and from dumbells he made all this physique (Doctors told him that he can never make a physique because he had some inherent problem in his spinal chord).”
Subsequently, Hrithik went on to star in successful movies like ‘Agneepath’, ‘Kabhi Khushi Khabhie Gham’, ‘Super 30’, ‘War’, and ‘Krrish’, that earned him a huge fan following and made him one of the top rated bollywood actors. Rakesh also expressed how much he loved watching movies as a child, indicating that a love of movies runs in the family.
