87879 candidates appeared in the first shift for CUET, know what CUG chairman said

UGC Chairman On CUET UG Exam: The examination for the second edition of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) began on Sunday (May 21). More than 14 lakh candidates are expected to appear in the examination. Unlike last year, this time the exam is being conducted in three shifts. UGC Chairman Professor Mamidala Jagdish Kumar has shared the information regarding the first shift.

He said, “In the first shift of CUET-UG, the examination has been successfully completed in all 271 cities and 447 centres. The total number of candidates in the first shift was 87879. Earlier, the CUET exam was to be held only from May 21 to 31, but later the National Testing Agency (NTA) extended its dates by at least four more days due to high number of candidates in some cities.

Two days reserve were also kept for the examination.

According to NTA, CUET examinations will now be held on June 1 and 2 apart from June 5 and 6. Two ‘reserve’ (reserved) days have been kept on June 7 and 8. University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman M Jagadesh Kumar advised students to answer questions only if they are sure about the correct answer.

He said, “Read the questions carefully. Answer only when you are sure as there will be negative marking. Be patient and keep trying without worrying about the result. Even if you don’t do well in the exam, remember that every day is a new morning and there will be another chance to perform well.

more than 14 lakh applications

Over 14 lakh applications have been received for CUET-UG this year, which is a 41 per cent increase from the first edition last year. CUET-UG is the second largest entrance exam in the country in terms of number of applicants. In the first edition of CUET-UG in 2022, 12.50 lakh students had registered themselves and 9.9 lakh had submitted applications.
