Helicopter crash in japan: Two Navy helicopters crashed in Japan after colliding with each other. A crew member lost his life in this accident. There were 8 people on board both the helicopters, the remaining 7 crew members are still missing. A search campaign has been launched for him, no information has been received about him yet.
Japan’s Defense Minister Minoru Kihara confirmed this on Sunday. He told that the body of one crew member has been found, the remaining 7 people are still missing. MSDF deployed 8 warships and 5 aircraft to search for the missing people. The team is searching for him. According to Minoru Kihara, these were two SH-60 helicopters of the Maritime Self-Defense Force. There were four crew members in each helicopter. They lost contact late Saturday night near Torishima island in the Pacific Ocean south of Tokyo and were then reported to have crashed. Kihara said the cause of the accident was not immediately known, but it was suspected that the two helicopters may have collided with each other before crashing into the water.
debris recovered
The rescue team has recovered some debris from the accident area. A blade and some fragments of the helicopter were found in them, which indicate that both the SH-60s were flying near each other. Now officials are finding out what was the cause of the accident. According to the Defense Ministry, the SH-60 helicopter had stopped communicating in the area of Torishima Island. After a minute the helicopter sent an emergency message. The ministry said that about half an hour later, another helicopter in the same area also lost communication.
Contact was lost during training
Kihara said the Sikorsky-designed, twin-engine multi-mission aircraft known as the Seahawk were on anti-submarine training in the water at night. One lost contact during the night. After about 25 minutes, contact with the second plane was lost. He said one helicopter belonged to an airport in Nagasaki and the other was based at a base in Tokushima Prefecture. Officials also informed that only the Japanese Navy was involved in the training on Saturday and it was not part of any multinational exercise.
